Savasana Workshop
with Zachary Katz-Stein
The Hollow | 7:15 - 8:30 PM
In yoga, we frequently say things like, "play with your edge" or "go towards things that challenge you." Most of the time, when we say things like this, we are talking about fairly fiery poses such as warrior III or standing splits. However, fully committing to a resting posture creates its own kind of challenge, which is what this workshop will explore.
We'll begin with a savasana, then go through two mini-practices with a savasana in the middle, followed by a 20-30 minute savasana at the end (which is actually the length of time this posture is held in most non-Western practices). Through this "intensive rest," we'll explore the restlessness of our own minds and the simple rejuvenating power of the natural breath.
Meet Zachary Katz-Stein
Zac’s yoga journey began in college with "Kenyon Fit" Vinyasa classes. Twice a week he trekked down the hill to the Kenyon Athletic Center and soon started noticing a change. Not only was he becoming stronger and more flexible, but his mind quieted, and he felt better able to focus. After college, he knew he wanted to keep yoga in his life and that it would be all too easy to stop practicing in the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
To that end, he took a 200-hour teacher training with Yoga to the People in Berkeley, California, in February 2013. Since then, Zac has taught over 1,000 hours of classes at eight different locations, qualifying him as an E-RYT 200 teacher. His style tends to reflect his Yoga to the People training and their philosophy of “yoga is for every body.” It includes multiple variations in every posture (both modifications and augmentations), precise cues, with a mix of demonstration and hands-on adjustments (after receiving verbal permission).
